Set Your Business Up For Success: A Website Questionnaire
One of the most important things that we believe results in a successful website build or project starts with clarity, not code. The most beautifully designed site won’t deliver results if it’s built on vague goals or assumptions. That’s why we place so much emphasis on the discovery phase.
We aim to understand your business, your audience, your challenges, and your long-term vision. Good communication early on helps us align on expectations, avoid costly revisions, and ultimately create a site that not only looks great but drives real growth.
This comprehensive questionnaire is the exact tool we use to guide those conversations. It’s designed to uncover strategy, highlight opportunities, and ensure we’re building something meaningful together.
1. Business & Strategic Goals
Understanding the client’s business goals is the foundation of a purposeful website.
- What is the primary goal of your website? (e.g., generate leads, sell products, build authority)
- How does your website support your overall business strategy?
- What are your top 3 business challenges right now, and how can the website help solve them?
- Are there specific KPIs or metrics you want to improve? (e.g., conversions, traffic, engagement)
- Where do you see your business in 1–3 years, and how should your website evolve to support that growth?
- What does success look like for this project?
2. Target Audience & Market Positioning
The best websites are built for a specific audience. These questions help define who they are and how to speak to them.
- Who is your ideal customer or target audience?
- What do they care about most when visiting your website?
- At what stage of the customer journey are they typically when they land on your site?
- What objections, pain points, or questions do you want your site to address?
- What sets you apart from competitors, and how should that be reflected on the site?
- Can you name a few competitors and what you like/dislike about their websites?
3. Branding, Messaging & Content Strategy
Design is more than visuals, it’s also about message clarity, tone, and consistency.
- Do you have existing brand guidelines (logos, colours, fonts, tone)?
- What is your core brand message or value proposition?
- What kind of feeling or impression should visitors get from your site?
- Do you have website content (text, images, video) ready, or will you need help creating it?
- Do you plan to use a blog, lead magnets, or other content tools to attract and convert?
- Will your site support SEO, email marketing, or social media strategies?
4. Features, Functionality & User Experience
The functionality of a site should be designed with user flow and business needs in mind.
- What specific features do you need? (e.g., blog, e-commerce, booking system, client portal)
- Do you need integrations with tools like a CRM, email platform, or payment system?
- Will your site need forms, landing pages, or gated content?
- Should users have different experiences depending on their role or journey (e.g., new visitor vs. returning client)?
- Will the site need to be multilingual or include accessibility features?
5. Technical Setup & Ongoing Management
Behind-the-scenes considerations are just as important for long-term success.
- Do you currently have a domain name and hosting provider?
- Is this a brand-new site or a redesign of an existing one?
- Are there any issues or limitations with your current site that we should address?
- Who will be updating and maintaining the website post-launch?
- Do you need it to be easy for non-tech users to manage?
6. Timeline, Budget & Project Process
Clear expectations prevent surprises later — this section gets everyone on the same page.
- What’s your ideal launch date or project deadline?
- Are there upcoming events, campaigns, or business milestones we should align with?
- What’s your budget range for this project?
- Who will be the main point of contact during the project?
- How involved do you want to be in the design and strategy process?
- Have you worked with a web designer or agency before? What was that experience like?
- Designing a website is a collaborative process and it works best when we’re both clear on where we’re going and why. These questions aren’t just a formality; they’re a framework for building a strong foundation, setting shared expectations, and making sure your website becomes a powerful asset for your business.
By taking the time to explore strategy, audience, goals, and functionality upfront, we can avoid guesswork and create a site that not only reflects your brand but also delivers results.
